Depending on your medical condition, you may have a scan of your abdominal or pelvic organs, or both.

Is Ultrasound Radiation?

No, ultrasound uses sound waves.

An X-ray is a common imaging test that has been used for decades to help doctors view the inside of the body without having to make an incision.

Advantages Of An X-Ray

  • High quality images
  • Images can be modified (brightness, contrast)
  • Images are burned into a CD
  • Images can be emailed to the doctor
  • No production of hard copy films

When Are X-Ray Examinations Used?

This test is very common. Your doctor may order an X-ray if he or she needs to look inside your body. Some of the many uses include:

  • Diagnosis of fractures or dislocations
  • As a surgical tool
  • Diagnosis of bone or joint conditions
  • Detection of foreign objects
  • View an area where you are experiencing pain.
  • Monitor the progression of a disease, such as osteoporosis
  • See the effect of a treatment method

SOMATOM Emotion16-slide CT Scanner

A hugely viable investment for The Clinic Group and Swaziland as this SOMATOM Emotion16-slide CT Scanner provides necessary material and patient study for all physicians and specialists in the country.

Advantages of the Somatom Emotion 16-slide CT Scanner

Quality images. The Somatom Emotion has the smallest focal spot in its class. Its parallel rays spread minimally of only 6 x 0.5mm and 16 x 0.6mm, providing the clarity and sharpness our physicians require for accurate diagnosis.

Our physicians are trained in interpreting these images, allowing a far more detailed account of the patient.

Easier for diagnosis. For the first time in Swaziland, thanks to this purchase, The Clinic Groups’ trained physicians are now able to detect and diagnose the cause of sudden onset symptoms without having to operate or refer patients to international medical centres. Not only with speed alone but also with confidence.

Rapid report turnaround time. Workflow enhancement is a major contributing factor with The Clinic Groups SOMATOM Emotion CT scanner. Physicians have instant access to patient data through a shared database within the SOMATOM. Cutting down the clerical need and time of sending images through the network. This technology allows our doctors to process data from a first patient whilst a second patient is already in the process of being scanned.

Not only is the patient able to receive a disk card of the entire CT scan, but a second opinion can be instantly obtained from another physician in a different department.

Environmental Waste disposal. We also do CT-Angios with the CT Scan.

Many patients have questions about getting a CT Scan, here are some common questions and answers.

"Does the CT examination hurt?” The scan is a non-invasive, painless medical procedure. It usually takes approximately 10 to 30 minutes to perform, depending on the part of the body that is being scanned, the number of pictures taken and the different angles required .

"Will I get claustrophobic?” Unlike the MRI scanner where the patient is placed in a tunnel, the CT scanner is doughnut shaped that the patient passes through, thus eliminating claustrophobia for the patient. Making the physicians task of giving a correct diagnosis to the patient a less fraught experience for all.

However patients who suffer from severe claustrophobia sometimes have problems with CT scans. As a precaution we encourage our patients to inform the doctors and radiographers if this might be a problem.

An ultrasound is a safe non-evasive procedure, used to produce images of inside the body.

Advantages of an Ultrasound

  • SonoAce R7 Machine
  • 3D/4D Images especially for gynaecological cases
  • Doppler
  • Small parts

What Happens During An Ultrasound?

The scan usually takes 10-15 minutes and you may be asked to wear a gown.

The ultrasound scanner looks a bit like a home computer system. There is a hard-drive, keyboard, and display screen, and a hand-held sensor. The sensor sends out sound waves and picks up the returning echoes. Pictures of the inside of your body are displayed on the screen. These pictures are constantly updated, so the scan can show movement.
